Although this is the third book in the Burying Water series, it can be read as a standalone. For those of you that have already read Burying Water and Becoming Rain, Chasing River takes place during the events of Becoming Rain. I have not yet had the time to read Burying Water but after reading Chasing River it has definitely moved to the top of my list.
I have to say that it took me a while to get into this book. I’m not really sure what it was. I didn’t mind that it took place in Ireland or learning some of their history. The only thing I can think it might have been is either the mood I was in at the time or that from the beginning Amber and River’s relationship had an expiration date.
Amber Welles is a twenty-five-year-old daughter of a Sheriff, straight-A student, Rodeo Queen, and likes control of her life. After the breakup from her latest boyfriend, Amber vowed that she would never divert her life for a guy. After working as a nurse, she has saved the money to travel the world by herself.
One day after arriving in Ireland, Amber was running late and decided to take a shortcut to make the bus for the tour she was to go on. Instead of making the bus, she was knocked off her feet quite literally by a handsome Irish man right before a pipe bomb went off. Amber only got a brief glance at him before he ran off. She knew she’d never be able to forget the man who saved her life, but was also resigned that she’d most probably never see him again.
River Delaney ran his family’s pub with his brother Rowen. He also has another brother who hasn’t been out of prison long and looked to already be getting into trouble. River decided to follow his brother one morning to find him getting early access to a park and placing a pipe bomb in an area that had been marked off.
Immediately you know River is a good guy when he stay to make sure that no one will get hurt by the bomb his brother left even though he could have been caught. When he sees a beautiful blonde, American running and about ready to make her way through the marked off area, River runs and covers her body with his, getting hurt in the process.
Imagine his surprise when the American girl he saved shows up at his family’s pub. She had been a constant thought in his mind wondering if she was okay. Their connection and chemistry are immediate but River knows that Amber is not like the kind of women he’s used to and that she will only be for a short period of time.
With Amber’s plan to only be in Ireland a week I was trying to figure out how they’d be together. The distance of Amber working and living in America and River in Ireland was only one complication. I have to say that I didn’t like their ending. I need more of Amber and River and hope that they will be appearing in some of the books in the series. I was a little disappointed that Ivy’s story in Surviving Ice wasn’t going to take place in Ireland and her hooking up with Rowen.
I love the books of K.A. Tucker’s that I have read so far and that she can even get me invested in the secondary characters. There are not many books that I enjoy or want more of the other characters but each book I read of hers I want to read their books and for me, that is a great feat. I cannot wait to read the rest of her books that she has already written and for her upcoming books. K.A. Tucker has become one of my favorite writers and I would definitely recommend her and hope that she becomes one of your favorites too.
