Book Review: The Deal by Elle Kennedy

Hannah has a crush on a football player at her school and she’s not one to fall for just any guy. Unfortunately he doesn’t know she exists.

Garrett is cocky with a manwhore reputation and the captain of the hockey team.  He finds himself failing one of his classes after their midterm and if he doesn’t bring up his grade then he won’t be able to play and let his team down.

When he sees that Hannah got an A on her midterm he’s determined to get her to tutor him. Except she wants nothing to do with him.  She uncomfortable around strangers and has too much going on in her life to spend her time with an arrogant jock.

After a few attempts to get her to tutor him he comes up with a deal that she cannot pass up.  He’ll help her social status and get the guy she likes attention if she tutors him for the week and half until the makeup test.  It’s a deal that she can’t refuse.

The more time they hang out the closer they get. Hannah doesn’t want to hang out with him because of who he is and they become friends.  Garrett has never wanted a girlfriend.  He needs to stay focused on school and hockey so that he can make it to the NHL.  But the more time he spends with Hannah the harder he falls for her.  Now his mission has changed. He needs to show her that he’s the man she should be with and not the guy that she’s been crushing on for months.

I never expected her. Sometimes people sneak up on you and suddenly you don’t know how you ever lived without them.  How you went about your day and hung out with your friends and fucked other people without having this one important person in your life.

This was a really fun story and I loved watched the characters fall in love with each other.  Their relationship started off unconventional with them quickly turning friends and then accidentally falling in love with each other and healing each other in the process.

There were some really great lines in this book too.  One of the ones that I loved the most was:

I burst into the locker room and….

Penises!

Sweet Jesus.

Penises everywhere.

Horror slams into me as I register what I’m seeing.  Oh God. I’ve stumbled onto a penis convention.  Big penises and small penises and fat penises and penis shaped penises.  It doesn’t matter which direction I move my head because everywhere I look I see penises.

How could you not want to read the book after that?  I will definitely be reading the rest of the series when they come out and her other books.  This is the first standalone in this series and the first but not last book I’ve read by Elle Kennedy.
