Book Review: Rebel by Callie Hart

Alexis Romera was in the wrong place at the wrong time and ended up in the hands of the Los Oscuros cartel.  Luckily for her, a member of the Widow Makers club was there when she taken and informed the president of the club that she witnessed the brutal murder of someone very important to him.  Buying her from the cartel, Rebel had ulterior motives in mind when he brought her to their compound. Getting her to testify against the very men who had threatened her family if she spoke a word of what she knew.  Will Rebel be able to convince her to testify?

“Revenge is a selfish act. Retaliation for something. Vengeance is a different thing altogether. It’s about obtaining justice, usually for someone who can’t claim it for themselves.”

There are so many layers to Rebel and we only got to see the surface of who he really is. I have a feeling we will see much more with the rest of the series. Born to wealth with a father who hated him, an ex-marine, a college graduate from MIT, a badass who will won’t hesitate to kick anyone’s ass, can instill fear with only a look from his icy eyes, an alpha, and totally gorgeous.  Not your typical MC guy. Let alone president.

I enjoyed getting to see the book from both of their perspectives and even getting some of Rebel’s past.  Alexis or better known for most of the book as Sophie, is feisty and has no problem standing up to Rebel, something that he is not used to.

The relationship between them started off rocky to say the least but it felt realistic and I like that.  It wasn’t insta-love but there was definitely an instant attraction between the two. It conflicted Alexis when she thought of the boyfriend that had been left behind in Seattle but as she got to see and learn more about Rebel she could not deny her attraction any longer.  What will happen now that she’s finally given herself into Rebel?

This is the first book that I’ve read by Callie Hart but definitely not my first MC book.  I’ve got to say that she put what other books I’ve read to shame with the amount of drama that ensued from the very beginning. And I mean the very beginning.  It started off with a BANG and didn’t stop until the very end leaving me wanting more. I will definitely be reading her Blood & Roses series.

Things only kept getting worse and worse and at the end it doesn’t get any better for Rebel or Alexis.  I can’t wait to find out what will happen next.

Rebel is the first of a 3-part series that is a spinoff from the Blood & Roses series. You are not required to read the Blood & Roses series prior to reading the Dead Man Ink’s series.
