This is the first book I’ve read by C.M. Hutton although I’ve already bought the next book in the series, Life of a Fool. This is a standalone and I have not read her two previous novels Paradise Taken and Saving Us. They are based on a true story and Honest Love is a spinoff of these novels. They are not necessary to read before reading Honest Love. I’m sure I will one day read them because I fell in love with C.M. Hutton’s writing as I read this book. I couldn’t put it down and knew I would instantly be buying the next book in the series.
Claire is a newly divorced woman who is starting her life over in San Diego with her three teenage children. She has gone back to work as a physical therapist. Her kids leave for three weeks to spend Christmas break with their father in Texas, and she decides to give all the other therapists’ time with their families and takes on their patients so that she doesn’t have much time to think about being alone. She meets Derek London, her fellow co-worker Melissa’s brother, who is an ex pro football player who hurt his knee, and is now a totally hot firefighter.
Derek has re-injured his knee, and it’s not the first time either, while on the job and wants to get as much physical therapy in as he can so that he can get back out on the job. When they first meet his a total ass and Claire is ready to drop him as a client. Having his knee reinjured brings back the memories of when his wife left him after his career was over.
Melissa informs Claire of Derek’s life before and Derek of Claire’s heartbreaking story. Once they know more about each other’s situations they start to talk during his therapy sessions and bond over the similarities of their lives.
Honest Love is a beautiful love story that’s low on angst, but has enough drama to keep you engaged. Their love came fast but it felt natural. I love their chemistry and how they healed each other’s wounds that both their ex’s have left them with. I can’t wait to read all the books in the London Brother’s Series. I’m sure I’ll fall in love with each of Derek’s brothers just as I did Derek. I highly recommend you read this book.
