Book Review: Black Lies by Alessandra Torre

Black_Lies_Official_Cover

I don’t know how to review this book and not give anything away.  The prologue ends with this:

Victory is mine. I grinned, giving myself a virtual high five, and put my Mercedes into drive. Pulling onto the street, I headed south. Maybe after my massage I’d swing by my boyfriend’s office. Drop off a sandwich for him. Celebrate my victory with the other man in my life. Go ahead. Judge me. You have no idea what my love entails. I love two men. I fuck two men. If you think you’ve heard this story before, you haven’t.

“This is a love story, but not one that is easy to read.”

Brant Sharp seems to be perfect.  He’s one of the country’s most eligible bachelors, a self-made billionaire, philanthropist, and a computer genius.  He’s also good looking and has a quiet charm about him.  Layana and any reader cannot help fall for him.  When he’s focused on her, it is solely on her, her pleasure, and her happiness.  We soon learn that not everything is perfect and Brant has a secret.

I have to say that I don’t like stories that have cheating in them, and I probably would have given up on this book if I knew what Brant’s secret was.  To me Brant was perfect and I need to know what was being hidden from us (the readers).  I had an idea of what the secret could be, but I needed to know.  Needed. It made me look past the fact that Lana was cheating on her almost perfect boyfriend and all that things that I normally hate in a book where the characters cheat.  That right there tells you what an awesome writer Alessandra Torre is that I could look past something as big as cheating and continue reading.

That secret leads us to Lee.

“Why does she cheat on me? What do I not provide for her? What part of me is not good enough?”

Lee is everything that Brant is not. He’s cocky, arrogant, but he gives her what Brant cannot. Sexual dominance.  He’s passionate and has no problem using Layana’s body for his own pleasure.  However, there’s a vulnerable side to Lee that makes you fall for him too.  He doesn’t think he’s worthy of her.  He cannot give her the life that she’s accustomed.

You need to go into this book with an open mind and be prepared to be stunned.  This book is brilliant.  You will most probably never read anything like it. This was my first time reading anything by Alessandra Torre, but it will not be my last. I fell in love with her writing style and her characters and look forward to reading more of her books.  This book shows you just how far someone will go for true love.  The sacrifices they are willing to make and how far they will go from everything they believed they’d never do to make sure they don’t lose that one true love.  You will tell all of your friends to read this book and you will go back and re-read it just to make sure you didn’t miss something important.  If there is one book, you should read this is that book.
